The Consort
"My secret?
I followed my beloved's shadow
And I am taken to the sun"
- Rumi, translated by Ari Honarvar
In the Modern Consort, your own awareness is your primary companion accompanying you on the experiential journey. It will ultimately guide and direct the experiments you run, and the results you get from them.
That's why it's called the Modern Consort: we lean heavily on the messages from our awareness, and treat it as something that can lovingly teach us about ourselves just like any intimate partner might. But this partner is perhaps the most intimate one we have, for it is with us through the inner experiences of every waking moment of every day of our lives.
Awareness is the bridge between ourselves and anything we could ever be connected to. In some ways, awareness is synonymous with connection. If something lives outside of awareness, it's outside of our consciousness, and our connection to it will be limited if it's there at all. So, in each experiment in connection, we follow our awareness to its edges to see what may lie outside of its reach. The point
is to follow our awareness and its shadows to understand the state of our connection, and how to move beyond the limits we have learned.
"Awareness is central to the process of love as the practice of freedom."
- bell hooks, "Love as the Practice of Freedom"
